Cheryl Barkhouse

Katavállo Entertainment

Originally from Nova Scotia, Cheryl grew up with a deep love and respect for Country music. When her daughter K-Leigh started K-Leigh’s Korner (now Starr’s Point Media), Cheryl jumped in with both feet doing video and photography. Her work quickly became recognized and it wasn’t long before independent artists began approaching her asking for her support. In order to be able to support these artists and to offer them the best services she could, she took a myriad of courses, seminars, and participated in conferences to further her knowledge.

In 2010, she began managing artists such as Mark Lorenz and consulting with artists such as Cole Malone and Ryan Lindsay. Innovation is a cornerstone in Cheryl’s business plan, and she began hosting monthly house concerts bringing in artists such as Duane Steele, Jamie Warren, Chad Brownlee, Adam Gregory, and Tenille Townes.

Her commitment to innovation and Country music continued in 2013 when Katavállo Entertainment began producing dinner shows in Airdrie and Edmonton featuring headliners and independent artists. Two years later, the Somewhere in Alberta Showcase was created. This Showcase was created to specifically highlight Alberta Independent Artists during the Canadian Country Music Awards. The first showcase started east in Halifax and has steadily moved west through London, Saskatoon, and Calgary. In the 6 years since its inception, Somewhere in Alberta has become one of the most sought-after events for Alberta artists and fans across Canada.

In 2019, Cheryl, via the Katavállo Entertainment Group, signed newcomer Brandon Lorenzo. It was with Brandon that once again Cheryl’s innovation flourished. Every Friday night throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Brandon performed cul-de-sac performances which directly impacted his meteoric rise.

In 2021, Cheryl signed Indigenous artist Stirling John who, after struggling to find his sound in the music industry is settling into a new chapter of Inspirational Country Music thanks to the help of Cheryl and her team.

It truly gives Cheryl such pride and joy to watch an artist succeed and find themselves.

In 2023, Cheryl received a nomination at the 12th Annual Country Music Alberta Awards for Talent Buyer of the Year.
